Return to your Home
Read Luke chapter 15 before reading this article. Today's article will be based on the Prodigal son story. Insights into the prodigal son are astounding and will help us re - examine ourselves.
This story deals with a family of 3. Figuratively this deals with believers.
1. All of us, the believers, were part of a home.
2. After being a believer, We get to choose between good and bad. There is freewill.
3. If we choose Good, i.e., remain in the Home with the father, it will be good for us
4. If we go wayward like the younger son, we have chosen it on our free will.
5. See here, father's property gets divided and younger gets a share. How true! Whatever good things we have got, came from the father of Lights. How much this is significant with the modern days! The servants of God amassing wealth, from tithes and offerings. They don't walk and sustain in Christ’s teaching "don't store up treasures in the world".
If We accept such people into our house, or even greet them, such act makes us partners in their wickedness. (Read II John, yesterday's bible reading portion)
6. The father of the prodigal son doesn't go in search of the lost son. He allows the son to go in his bad ways! Is that the reason we see the wealth amassing "servants" still amassing freely?
7. When the bad ways suck up all that he had, prodigal son did not return to father. He first tries his hand to work. How true this is! Instead of coming back to the loving father, we often think I can do it myself and survive.
8. When that attempt failed, and drought intensifies, he tries to feed himself from chaff which was kept for pigs. Let us understand the significance...
Drought signifies the spiritual decline. Also for Jews Pigs were supposed to be unclean animals. They would not even touch pigs, leave alone eat the meat. Tending pigs is like working for a person who doesn't share your beliefs. The master grows pigs not for fun, but to eat. He knowingly goes and partner to raise Pigs for consumption. You don't have anything in common.
But not realising your father's love... are you working for a master (secular job) who doesn't share what you believe?
How many of us have done detestable things (bribes, evasion of taxes etc.,) in our secular jobs and have not stood the test of fire like Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. If we have, understand we have gone wayward. Repent and return to the Lord.
9. When he couldn't get the chaff, then he thinks of the good days he was living. Then he thinks of the servants eating good food in his father's house. How true... when one goes wayward, he thinks about the good times.
How often have we cried out "my first love relationship with you LORD, I ache for that LORD"?
In these days LORD didn't change. We have.
We were Supposed to grow in spirit. Have we?
If we cannot taste the goodness of the LORD like how we tasted once upon a time, in our lives, haven't we gone wayward? Let's Return now!
10. Your father is waiting at the home. To run towards you, to receive you. To clothe you with salvation. To give you his Ring and give a new footwear. He orders a feast for your return in celebration. 'Accept me as a servant' pleads the younger son, but Father accepts him as son and gives back his old position. That's the love of the LORD.
11. The son who remained with the father was angry with the celebration. How often we do get angry, jealous, bitter when some of our brethren get some importance?
Are we praying "Oh God you didn't heal my headache for me, but you healed a cancer to that person"
12. Father's love is unchanging. He reaches out to the elder son and pacifies him to join the celebration, assuring him "All I have, was yours"
If the LORD has spoken to you through this and made you understand the waywardness, just return to the Father's home today. You need not wait for the good things to dry up and then get to a position where in you work for a person who doesnot uphold your beliefs. In whatever situation you are at, LORD is ready to accept you back and clothe you with salvation, give you a ring which specifies authority, provide you a footwear to go around and tell the Father's goodness and feasts with you in celebration.
If you are the elder son, know that "All that father has, is yours" don't begrudge the goodness and love father shows on your brother.
May God bless you.
